AHPP Cemetery Lecture, Demonstration Set For Charleston

Arkansas Historic Preservation Program - Friday, October 06, 2017

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will present “Bringing It Back: Basic Cemetery Maintenance” at the Charleston Public Library at 12 School Street in Charleston at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24.

AHPP Special Projects Historian Holly Hope will offer information on cleaning and documenting gravestones, as well as safety, repair and straightening techniques, materials and tools, and landscaping issues. She also will discuss listing cemeteries on the National Register of Historic Places during the free lecture. The lecture will be followed with a gravestone cleaning demonstration at Burt Cemetery on East Main Street in Charleston.

The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage division responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources.
