AHPP to Hold Lakeview Historic District Meeting

Arkansas Historic Preservation Program - Tuesday, April 10, 2018

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will hold a public meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, in the Lake View Community Center (school gymnasium) to discuss a possible Lake View Historic District for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, the country’s official list of historically significant sites.

The meeting is being held at the request of the Lake View Cooperative Association’s Legacy Committee to recognize the Lakeview Resettlement Project, a 1937 community established to assist African American farm families during the Great Depression. The AHPP staff members will explain the National Register program and potential effects and benefits for people living within the district and to answer any questions about the project.

The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage division responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources. Other divisions are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Old State House Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, the Historic Arkansas Museum and the Arkansas State Archives.
