Little Rock Housing Towers Listed on National Register of Historic Places

LITTLE ROCK—Three Little Rock public housing towers have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the country’s official list of historically significant properties.

The three newly listed properties, which all were built to serve as public housing for senior citizens, are:

* Cumberland Towers at 211 East Eighth Street, an 11-story International Style residential tower built in 1974

* Fred W. Parris Towers at 1800 South Broadway, a 14-story International Style residential tower constructed in 1972

* Jesse Powell Towers at 1010 Wolfe Street, a nine-story International Style residential tower erected in 1975.

The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage agency responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources. Other agencies are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Historic Arkansas Museum and the Arkansas State Archives.
