Originally opened in 1873 for the Cairo and Fulton Railroad, this bridge was expanded to include an upper road deck built above the railroad tracks
in 1877. This bridge was rebuilt with a lower roadway alongside the tracks in 1886. In the flood of 1927, the bridge was lost to the raging Arkansas
River floodwaters. In 1929, the bridge reopened to railroad traffic under the direction of the Missouri Pacific Railroad. In 1967, the current
lift span section of the bridge was installed.
Today, under the ownership of the Union Pacific Railroad, the bridge continues to facilitate railroad traffic across the Arkansas River.
