FRAUENTHAL HOUSE, CONWAY, FAULKNER COUNTY

ELABORATION

The Frauenthal House in Conway, Arkansas, was constructed in 1913.  Designed by Charles L. Thompson, the house is an unusual blend of Colonial Revival and Craftsman Style elements.  The Frauenthal House makes a formal statement although many informal Craftsman Style details are featured in the design.  These Craftsman details include large brackets lining the overhanging eaves at the gable ends, stucco and pseudo half-timbering on the south end of the facade and the wide six-over-one light sash windows.  The dominant feature of the facade is the projecting pedimented portico in which a full entablature is supported by four monumental Tuscan columns.  The house is the focal point of its neighborhood, situated back from the street and surrounded by an iron fence.
