ELABORATION

The spiral motif may be another type of sun symbol. It is relatively common in rock art sites throughout the eastern United States. Similar designs have been found on the Carson Red on Buff pottery vessels from Carden Bottoms which may be another indication of the relationship of this complex and the rock art on the mountain. The hand prints are similar to the one found at the Grotto (3CN129) except that they are of the more common red ochre paint rather than the yellow pigment.
