ELABORATION

This is by far the largest aboriginal site currently known on Petit Jean Mountain. It also has the greatest amount of rock paintings of the sites on the mountain. Unfortunately, the size of the shelter and its location with respect to receiving light during the day has made it extremely difficult to carefully study the individual pictographs. As indicated, most are situated on the ceiling and walls far from the shelter floor. The inaccessibility of these paintings, however, has most likely aided in their protection and preservation. The general style of the pictographs, including the small anthropomorph previously described, is similar to the others found on the mountain.
